Dogechain DC Polygon Edge

In this article, we explore how Dogechain takes advantage of Polygon’s scaling solutions and its simple-to-use framework. You will also learn how Dogechain was able to provide a sovereign, scalable blockchain for the original meme coin and allow it to participate in the Web3 revolution.

TL;DR

  • Polygon is more than just a Layer-2 solution for Ethereum
  • Polygon Edge and Polygon Supernets provide the tools for creating a multi-chain ecosystem of Ethereum-compatible blockchain
  • Dogechain takes advantage of the Polygon Edge framework to provide Dogecoin users with smart contract capability.
  • It has already greatly benefitted from the modularity, flexibility, and scalability of Polygon Edge.
  • Polygon Edge & Supernets provides future-proof technology that will allow Dogechain, and Dogecoin to be an integral part of Web3.

Polygon Sets the Foundation for Web3

Ethereum’s insane popularity as a smart contract platform has caused it some considerable difficulties over the years. The high congestion of the network and skyrocketing gas fees have been hindering the adoption of blockchain tech at a mass level and providing an overall poor user experience to DeFi newcomers.

Since its inception in 2019, Polygon has aimed to address these scaling issues with its Layer-2 solutions for Ethereum. What’s more, the network has succeeded admirably at this task and has become one of the preferred solutions for both developers and users. Polygon has provided fast and cost-effective transactions and streamlined onboarding, bolstering its success in the industry.

However, the goals and ambitions of the Polygon team don’t stop with providing an industry-leading scaling platform for Ethereum. Instead, this project has set a goal to create “Ethereum’s internet of blockchains”. It aims to allow EVM-compatible chains to interoperate and exchange assets and data which are bound to set the fundamentals for the upcoming Web3 era.

Polygon’s Multiple Scaling Solutions

Polygon provides multiple scaling solutions for Ethereum including Plasma, zk Rollups, Optimistic Rollups, and Validum Chains. More precisely, the teams are developing the following solutions to provide high versatility when it comes to scalability:

  • Hermez, an open-source ZK Rollup optimized for secure, low-cost, and usable token transfers on Ethereum.
  • Avail, a modular blockchain that records transaction data for other blockchains so they don’t have to.
  • Nightfall, a hybrid Optimistic-ZK rollup that enables privacy-focused decentralized business transactions.
  • Miden, a STARK-based, Zero-Knowledge rollup with support for arbitrary smart contracts.

However, in addition to these scaling solutions, Polygon has released Edge, a comprehensible framework for building custom blockchains. Polygon Edge provides developers with a variety of modules that allow them to easily deploy and configure their own chain and adapt it to their needs.

Additionally, Polygon Edge sets the basis for Polygon Supernets, which provides much-needed interoperability between EVN-compatible blockchains.

Polygon Edge — The Right Choice for Dogechain

As we’ve covered in our previous article, Polygon Edge provides multiple benefits to developers using its framework. Thanks to its modularity and ease of use, our team was able to deploy Dogechain in a record time. However, the benefits didn’t end there.

The EVM compatibility allowed hundreds of builders to launch their apps and create tokens on Dogechain less than two weeks after launch. Developers were able to fork battle-tested code from Ethereum and run it with minor modifications. Once the first few decentralized exchanges hit the chain, on-chain traffic and usage exploded! We saw hundreds of meme tokens appear, bearing witness to the streamlined protocol provided by Polygon Edge.

Additionally, Edge provides developers to change core features and customize the consensus engine. Using this feature, the Dogechain team decided to launch the chain on a “closed garden” Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus. The goal was to be able to battle-test its code and bridge features while remaining in control of certain key functionalities.

The true benefit of this feature lies in the possibility of switching between PoA and PoS consensuses. This allowed the team to simultaneously work on the staking mechanism for Dogechain and activate PoS once the protocol had proved its robustness.

Moreover, Dogechain managed to test one of the key features of Polygon Edge — scalability. The chain experienced exponential growth, managing 50 million transactions in 2 months. At one point it had surpassed Polygon PoS and Ethereum with over 3.6 million daily transactions. And despite the high frequency, the protocol kept its promises and provided reliable, fast, and cheap transactions at all times.

And of course, the final advantage consists of being able to eventually be able to become part of Supernets and the Polygon Edge family of chain builders.

Joining The Polygon Edge Family

The Dogechain team is one of the first to use the Polygon Edge framework to successfully deploy a sovereign blockchain. However, there are already dozens of teams that are working with Polygon Edge to deploy their own solutions. This means that multiple chain builders will be taking advantage of Polygon Edge’s features and growing the Polygon family even further.

These new, sovereign chains will be the puzzle pieces needed for creating an EVM-compatible internet of blockchains. Polygon Supernets will allow them to interoperate and communicate, with built-in bridging with other Ethereum-compatible blockchains and near-zero gas fees.

Concluding Thoughts

Thanks to Polygon Edge, the Dogechain team was able to build a sustainable Layer-1 blockchain that acts as a scaling and smart contract solution for the original PoW Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Consequently, it will allow more than 4 million DOGE holders access to advanced blockchain features such as DeFi, NFTs, and blockchain games.

Only 2 months after launch, the choice for Polygon Edge justifies itself through proof of scalability, ease of use, code portability, and continuous enrollment of new developers on the chain. The future reserves a lot of new opportunities with the Polygon Supernets family and the interoperability it might offer with its internet of EVM-compatible blockchains.

Dogechain is bringing DeFi & long awaited utility to Dogecoin. Join the family!
